This page lists everything mollusk sends from your computer, who receives it and how long it is kept.
The short version
- mollusk sends no telemetry, analytics or automatic crash reports. If you switch on usage summaries, which are off until you say yes, it sends anonymous counts of what was converted. Your sessions, audio and converted projects stay on your computer unless you choose to send a problem report.
- This website uses no cookies or analytics, and everything on it is served from mollusk.audio.
- We don't sell or share personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
What the app sends, and when
mollusk connects to the internet in these cases only.
Checking for updates
When mollusk opens, and when you choose Help > Check for updates, it asks mollusk.audio for the current version number. The request carries nothing except the version of mollusk you have. You can turn off the check at launch under Help > App settings. If you choose to install an update, mollusk downloads it from our download server, and, if the update comes with new license terms, downloads those terms from mollusk.audio, again sending nothing but the request.
Like any program on the internet, mollusk's requests also carry a few standard technical headers, such as which kinds of compression it accepts. None of them identifies you or your computer, and mollusk sends no cookies.
Activating and deactivating
When you choose Activate, mollusk sends your license key, your computer's name and a machine identifier to our license service, license.mollusk.audio. The computer's name is the one your operating system shows for it, such as "DESKTOP-4F2K9" on Windows or "Sam's MacBook Pro" on a Mac, so it may include your own name. It is sent so you can tell your two activated computers apart. The machine identifier is a one-way hash of an ID your operating system gives the computer; the ID itself never leaves your computer. The service checks the key with Lemon Squeezy, our reseller, and sends back an activation record that stays on your computer.
Lemon Squeezy receives the license key and the computer's name, and keeps that name on the list of computers using the key until you deactivate it. That list is how the two-computer limit works. The machine identifier goes only into the record returned to your computer; we don't store it.
If you activate again on a computer that was activated before, for example after reinstalling, mollusk also sends the ID of that earlier activation, so the computer keeps its seat instead of using a second one.
Deactivate, and opening Help > License, send the license key and the ID of that activation, to free the seat or count the seats in use.
Sending a problem report or feedback
Only when you press Send report on a conversion, mollusk sends the report shown to you before sending: the session's name, its track list, its plug-ins and what happened to each, mollusk's settings, and the versions of mollusk and your operating system. The settings include the folders mollusk uses, such as where your sessions are and where conversions go, and a folder path often contains your user name on the computer. It also sends any note and reply address you add, and the Pro Tools session file only if you select the option to include it. Audio files are never sent. The report goes through license.mollusk.audio, which forwards it by email to [email protected] and keeps no copy.
Help > Report a problem and Help > Send feedback send only when Send report or Send feedback is pressed. Each sends the text shown in the window: the words typed there, the versions of mollusk and your operating system, the date and time, any reply address added and, for each option selected, mollusk's settings and the conversion reports named in the window. No session file and no audio is sent from these two windows. The message goes through license.mollusk.audio in the same way.
If sending a conversion's report fails, mollusk offers Send by email instead, which only prepares the same message in your own email program. Nothing leaves until you send it yourself.
If mollusk closes unexpectedly, the next time it opens it may ask whether to write a problem report. Choosing to write one opens the Report a problem window with the error details filled in. Nothing is sent unless Send report is pressed. The offer's Copy error details button copies one technical line to the clipboard: the versions, what mollusk was doing and an error code when there is one, never names or paths. Selecting Don't show this again stops the offer; Help > App settings turns the offer back on.
Usage summaries, only if you switch them on
The first time you open mollusk, it asks whether you'd like to help improve it by sharing anonymous usage summaries. Nothing is sent unless you say yes. You can change your answer at any time under Help > App settings, where the switch is called Help improve mollusk.
If you say yes, mollusk sends a short summary after each session it converts, telling us what kinds of sessions people convert and how well they come across. A summary contains:
- whether the conversion completed, failed, or stopped unexpectedly (the converter crashed or ran out of time);
- counts from the session: tracks of each kind, clips, MIDI notes, sends, automated tracks, alternate playlists, hidden and inactive tracks, and the sample rate, bit depth and Pro Tools version it was saved with;
- the product and maker names of the plug-ins the session uses, such as "Pro-Q 4" by "FabFilter", how many of each, and whether each came across with its settings;
- short fixed codes for anything that didn't convert or needed a warning;
- the versions of mollusk and of your operating system;
- a random install ID, created when you say yes, so that converting the same session twice isn't counted as two people. It isn't linked to your computer's identifier or your license, and switching summaries off deletes it; switching them on again makes a new one.
If mollusk itself closed unexpectedly, the next time it opens it sends one short note saying so, and what it was doing at the time: converting, scanning your sessions, or nothing. That note carries the same random install ID and versions, and nothing else. mollusk never sends crash dumps or technical traces.
A summary never contains any name you gave anything (sessions, tracks, clips, playlists, markers, buses, sends, folders or files), any path or folder, your computer's name or identifier, your license key or anything about your license, your email address, plug-in preset names or settings, audio, or the session file. You can see exactly what was sent with Show the last summary sent, under Help > App settings.
Summaries go to license.mollusk.audio, which stores each one with the day it arrived (not the time) in a database run by Cloudflare. Your IP address is not stored with it or anywhere else. Sending happens in the background and never slows or stops a conversion; if it fails, nothing is retried.
Your IP address
Like any internet request, each of these, usage summaries included, reaches the receiving server with the IP address it came from. We use it only to deliver the request and to stop abuse: the license service counts requests from each address for one minute, to limit repeated tries, and then discards the count. To limit how many problem reports and feedback messages arrive in a day, the service also counts them against a scrambled form of the address that changes every day and cannot be turned back into the address. Those counts are deleted within three days. We don't keep a log of IP addresses.
What stays on your computer
Your settings, your license key and activation record, trial information and the reports of your conversions are stored on your computer only, and are never sent, except a report you choose to send. If usage summaries are on, mollusk also keeps its random install ID and a copy of the last summary it sent, so you can read it.
Buying mollusk
mollusk is sold through Lemon Squeezy, which is the merchant of record: the seller of record for your purchase, which processes the payment, sales tax and VAT, and refunds. Lemon Squeezy collects your payment details and billing information under its own privacy policy. We never see your card number. From Lemon Squeezy we receive what we need to serve you as a customer: your name, email address, country, what you bought and when, and your license key.
When you write to us, or send a problem report with a reply address, we receive your email address and what you wrote. We use it only to answer you and to fix the problem you reported. Our email is hosted by Google Workspace.
This website
mollusk.audio sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads its fonts, images and scripts from itself, not from anyone else. It is served by Cloudflare, which handles each request, including its IP address, to deliver the page and protect the site from attacks, under Cloudflare's own privacy policy. We don't receive a record of individual visits.
How long we keep it
- Activations: the computer's name stays with Lemon Squeezy until you deactivate that computer, or your license ends. We can remove one for you on request.
- Problem reports and email: a Pro Tools session file you send is deleted within 14 days of your problem being closed. The emails themselves are kept for three years after our last message, to keep the support history, then deleted.
- Purchase records: kept for as long as tax law requires us to keep business records (generally seven years). Lemon Squeezy keeps its own records under its policy.
- Usage summaries: deleted automatically 24 months after the day they arrive. Because a summary carries no name, license or computer identifier, we can't tell which summaries are yours, so they cannot be deleted individually. Switching summaries off stops them immediately.
- IP addresses: not kept by us, as above. The daily report counts are deleted within three days.
Who else handles it
We use three companies to run mollusk, each only for the job named here:
- Lemon Squeezy: sales, payment, tax, refunds and license keys.
- Cloudflare: serving this website, update checks, downloads and the license service, sending problem reports on to our mailbox, and storing usage summaries if you switch them on.
- Google Workspace: our email.
We don't give personal information to anyone else, unless the law requires us to.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to [email protected]. We will answer within 30 days. Deleting purchase records may be limited by what tax law makes us keep, and we will tell you if so. You can also turn off the update check at launch, deactivate a computer at any time, and choose never to send a report or usage summaries.
If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom: we process this information to provide the software you bought (activation, updates and support), to meet our legal obligations (tax records), for our legitimate interest in keeping our services secure (limiting repeated requests), and, for usage summaries only, with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by switching them off under Help > App settings. You may complain to your local data protection authority. Our services run in the United States, so the information described here is processed there.
If you are in California or another US state with a privacy law: we don't sell or share personal information, and you have the rights described above.
Children
mollusk is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new date. If a change affects what the app sends, it arrives with an update, and the update's notes say so.
